ok, i've tried my hand at a little tutorial for making a twisted column. i was hoping that this would be suitable as a noob lesson. let me know if i've missed the mark or complicated a process more than it needs to be. db

Very nicely done! I hope you'll be doing more of these. This was a very neat and straightforward tutorial, and the illustrations + animation will be most helpful for beginners.

Hey that tutorial was excellent it was straightforward and evry thing but i have one minor problem: when i set the texture i want, it only sets it on flat surfaces and not on the actual columns. any suggestions??

thanks for your comments. i'm glad you liked the tutorial. as for texturing: that is another lesson - and you start with the basicas covered in the manual. try this thou. after you texture an object, select it. then from the "Tools" menu, select "Texture Coordinant Editor". This is the primary tool in AC3D used for texturing.
once that window comes up, select the object in the new editor window and experiment with the "Remap" options. "Spherical" will usually get a cylinder coverd. but like i said, experiment. have fun.

I Have just managed to upload my own pictures. This is the easiest way for twisted columns. Sorry for the bad quality but I couldn't in other way.
