View Full Version : Textures... again

Hi there!

My experiences in 3d gfx field are limited to Amiga500 & Real3D 1.4. I start to use ac3d & pov-ray 2 days ago. Good thing. BUT...
1. I've found solution to the problem with bmp textures on this forum (add sys before pic name in pov-ray code). Before I tried to change texture into gif. The same trouble as above - and I don't know the command to fix it.
2. I've tested AC3D on P200MMX 64MB NT4.0 and Cel400 160MB 98SE DX8. Occasionaly some windows are suspended (view freezes with some parts of previously opened window). Model info: Total objects: 64 surfaces: 3213 vertices: 2898
3. Afore model is a outside view of my company. My salary is delayed. How I can export it as a map to Quake (or other shooter)? Any plug?
4. Is there a possibility to change reference point without moving the objects? Want to see some part in 3d window (check texture mapping).
5. Is somebody knows something 'bout any rt engine for models?

Suggestions:
As you noticed my cpu's are slow, not for 3d pro gfx (I'm not 'pro'). Possibility of turning some objects into invisible could be well solution (something like in Photoshop)

Hi QF3L,

I was sure that we fixed the problem with Povray textures - are you using the latest AC3D?

The problems you are having with the views becoming corrupt are due to your graphics card libraries. Please ensure you have the very latest drivers for your card. (AC3D uses OpenGL, not Direct X) As your machines are quite old, you may not be able to find newer drivers. You could probably get a Geforce2 card for less that $20 though.

AC3D exports many different file formats. 3DS is probably the most widely supported. Perhaps someone who designs worlds for Quake could post what they do?

To move a view, use the middle mouse button to drag it (or control+right mouse button)

There are many game/graphics engiens out there - best to use Google for a search - your choice depends what you want to do.

AC3D 4.0 D and Pov-ray 3.5. afaik this is the latest version

I've seen this option in 'Render' menu. But choosing it isn't changing any parameters (program path, filename and command line).
I dislike 3d Studio. Why? Maybe 'cause its advertising campaign ('1st so good 3d soft!', when I was playing more than a year with Real3D 1.4, and my friends with A1200 could use Maxon Cinema4D, Lightwave or Real 3D V2). Pathetic.

/shame mode=on/

Something, what will allow me to steer (in limited range, ie. turn, magnify and shrink) around scene descibed in AC3D compatible format. I'll send you model after finishing.

PS. Andy, you are great!
PS2. Do you have any tutorial describing materials? I can't find any here.
