View Full Version : G-Force driver problems?

I'm just wondering if anyone else is having problems with their Nvidia drivers. Right now I'm running version 4.5.33. I've tried the 2 more recent drivers, but I've had wierd problems with them and ended up having to roll it back to the version I have now.
With the latest 2 versions everything would be fine. I then would render my image from within AC3D and then cancel out Pov-Ray and return to AC3D. After I returned from rendering I can select, rotate, and view my model in the 3D window, but I can't select or move my object in the orth views.
The other 2 version I've tried was 52.16 and 53.03 and both gave me the same problems.

The only problems I have is that Ac3D will refuse to load sometimes - alt-ctrl+del and kill task - then it loads perfectly.
I sometimes get wierd results if I go from a full 3D view to a XY view - whereas I too can not select anything - returning to the normal 4 panes fixes that problem

I've notice 2 'visual' problems:
1] If I click on another program and then back to AC3D it can take seconds for the control panel to appear, instead it has the image of whatever is behind it in it's place.
2] Sometimes when an object is manipulated in the 3D view it slows down to a crawl with refreshes taking, again, seconds. It does this even with simple objects like a single cube in line drawing mode.
I have a Nvidia Ti4600 can't remember what the driver is (I'm away from that computer at the moment). Battlefield 1942 has a problem as well, which only happened after I installed the DirectX 9 drivers.
Cheers,
Titch

Yeah I've heard that many that had the 52.16 driver had a lot of problems when playing Desert Combat, but they say that the 53.03 version was better. When I tried the 52.16 version and played DC Combat, I had some wierd texture problems. I then tried 53.03 and it was better, but I still have problems running AC3D.

Thanks, I'll look it up.
Do you have a demo of the car you use in your signature please?

Well I've submitted a couple of renders for the gallery, but they're not up as of yet. I guess I could post one, but I'd have to delete some of the other images that I have posted so I wont exceed my bandwidth ( stingy Earthlink ).

I'm interested in the complex shapes of the side panels and windows. How did you do them??

Any of you try upgrading to the latest version of AC3D 4.08, it cleared up my problems. I'm not using a nvidia video card though but it still should help.

I can only see version 4.07 available on:
http://www.ac3d.org/pages/downloads
When will 4.07 be available?

Well I've downloaded the latest Nvidia driver again, version 53.03, and the latest version of AC3D. So far I haven't had any lock-up problems, but now whenever I start AC3D I get these 2 warnings.
Error loading plugin-C:\program files\AC3D4\plugins\milkshape_import.p
The specified procedure could not be found.
I hit "ok" then another one pops up.
Error loading plugin-C:\program files\AC3D4\plugins\polymake.p
The specified procedure could not be found.
After I hit "ok", it starts up fine.

We'll need andy or the plugin creators(maybe both) to fix that woody sounds like the plugin's aren't loaded because something changed in the new revision that the plugin was looking for or handle different.

It seems now that I'm starting to have dislay problems. Whenever I switch from 3D view to ortho I get hang ups and I can't select any object. Like what was stated before, I think I'm having the same problems. If it hangs up in one view I'll switch to "all" view then back to the one I want. It seems to help, but I have to do that every time I change single views. Very irritating.

I have the Nvidia GForce card and so far I havn't experienced any problems. Or maybe I have... I'm not very "learned" about video and sound cards. I could have the worst visual and sound effects right now but I would never know.

Hi Woody,
Please could you try changing the value of opengl_share_contexts in your ac3d prefs file. After you restart AC3D, let me know if this makes a difference.

Well I've tried that by un-ticking that box in the preferences menu, but it still does it.
It seems ok in the 3D window, but messed up in the orth views. It also seems to happen at random. Everything will seem fine, but after I render and come back to AC3D, it's starts doing it again. I don't think it's a bug with AC3D, but with Nvidia's drivers. I know that others have been having problems with Nvidia's latest drivers with other games and programs and because I never had any problems till I updated mine.
My system specs ( if that'll help )
Intel Pentium 4 1.8
Nvidia GForce 4 FX 5600 ( Voodoo ) 128 meg driver version 5.3.0.3
Direct X 9
512 meg ram
Windows XP home ( service pack 1 )

Hi everyone, I just downloaded the software this evening and I am having the same problems with my views. I downloaded the latest drivers from nvidia. I restarted the app and it looks ok now, I will let you know if this keeps happening so at least we can rule out the driver issue as I was using an older driver when I first experienced the problem.

AndyIs this a nvidia driver problem, I'm seeing a lot of nvidia users all over the web with different apps having trouble with opengl

After I reverted back to the old NVIDIA driver. ac3d seems to be fine so far as far as display problems. I just wanted to let you know that I was playing with another app called Moray and I recieved the same dghelp error.
I was using gmax and I sometimes could not right click to expand certain menus. This problem seemed to be intermittent but maybe everything is all somehow related to the driver using opengl. I don't know.

I have the hangups too, but there doesn't seem to be an identifiable pattern to them. Worse yet, they lock up my entire system cold. No Ctrl+Alt+Del possible to get back to the desktop or force quit. The only option is to hit the switch on the PC and reboot.
Take today f'rinstance.
I booted up AC3D, and it loaded fine. I populated the views with background images, then created one box for scaling of my finished object. I was trying to make the box transparent, and hit the 3D button to have a better look...and full lockup of my entire system.
I rebooted, entered the program and tried to reload the same background images that had imported perfectly moments before (since the previous crash didn't allow me to save the new model I was creating, I had to start from scratch). the Images only showed up as white squares with no image detail in them. *lockup*.
Rebooted again: just plain *lockup*.
By this time, I'm about fed up. Reboots take an annoying amount of time, what with ScanDisking the entire system. Plus, I can't come to grips with what might be causing the problem, because the problem manifests itself differently each time.
