It would be very useful if you could lock an object in the editor which would prevent you from selecting or manipulating any part of it. When I am working in close proximity to other objects, I am forever picking /selecting vertices/faces/etc in the other objects that I don't want to.
There'd also need to be an unlock option (perhaps bring up a list of locked objects that you can select to unlock).
