View Full Version : Ebay hacking

I have just had my Ebay account hacked. Someone/something must have logged on as me and changed my email address.
Luckily, I got on, changed my email and password before they could click on the 'email confirmation' message they must have received.
I'm still not confident that my Ebay account is safe.
Has anyone else experienced this?

It gets better.
A motorbike appeared listed under our items for sale. We got charged the seller fees too.
Nice.

You should call EBay customer support ASAP

They sorted it out quite quickly. They removed the new item and refunded the charges. Very scary experience though.
I still can't work out how they managed to get on as me. The password wasn't an actual word but combination of letters and numbers that would be had to guess.

Do you use the password somewhere else?
Maybe brute-force on a less secure system - using the acuired password on EBay...

Run a anti-vir software.
Maybe you got a trojan keylogger infection...

Thanks for the suggestion - virus scanning now although I have symantec running all the time.
Have used the password elsewhere but not the same login name. Difficult to see how they could link up some other site to my ebay username.
The ip address of the hacker/script was Romania.

Do you keep the anti-vir database up to date?
Mine will be updated every day...
I once hat the update running once a week - that was the time, I got my first virus on my PC.
So update daily - best two times a day, in the morning and evening.
Anyway, good luck...

No viruses on this machine but I'll test the others.

Yes. A month ago someone hacked me and tried to buy a $13.000 dollar car under my name.It could be all one group.

If it's the same group, they could be using a password cracking algorithm.
