View Full Version : New Boolean CGL version causing some strange issues

Noticed the newer version of the boolean function does not work 100%. With the older version, I could put to hollow cylinders together (In a form of a Y), and subtract or add them. I would be left with a new hollow cylinder minus the subtracted part. With the new version, it closes any hollow object with a new face.

I am aware that we must use 3D objects that are enclosed, but that now limits the options. Even with enclosed objects, simple box and sphere, It doesn't cut them completely, misses a few surfaces? Anyone else notice this?

Hi,

You're right that the hollow cylinders are not 'solid' and do not qualify for CSG in the strictest sense of the word. If these are encountered, the plugin does its best to cope, but it's not a guaranteed result.

That said, my quick test didn't show any problem subtracting a cyliinder with no caps from another cyl with no caps... Were you saying that, when subtracted, only the outer surface would remain? That would have been a bug...

I'm interested in the 'missed surfaces' you mention. Do you have a file exhibiting the problem? I don't have much time outside work anymore, but I'd be interested in knowing more about the issue.

Thanks,
