G'Day from Australia!
I've been using AC3D now since the end of July & love it - if only I could get to it a little more often... you know... work, house renovations, family (2 baby girls  )
I first came across it through the Wonderland forums - a brilliant little puzzle game from Midnight Synergy. In the games latest incantation, there's an allowance for level creators to use up to 4 custom models.
There was a bit of discussion on the best modelling programs to use & it came down to 3 - Lightwave, Maya & 3dMax. But since these were way out of reach of any of our pockets ( ) we settled with AC3D  - just joking... The few of us that have tried our hand at modelling all use AC3D though we're are pretty much hacks when it comes to it & don't come near to some of the 'beginners' that post their work here.
I've found AC3D really good in terms of the layout & controls & have even built a few models & done some basic texturing - made a cake & mapped it out so others could just pick up their graphics program & design the cake to their liking without having to worry about modelling - positioned it so I could place the in-game animated flames on top of the candles. It's been fun. Still learning & looking forward to some of the suggestions that have been put forward.
Anyway, hope you all have a great Christmas.
Robbie :D
Hmmmn... I was going to post a picture of the cake & a Christmas greeting but the attachment button is gone? I know over in the Wonderland forums we can post attachments & I'm sure I've seen them here before but...
Oh well, you'll just have to use your imagination 8)
