Thought I'd show these off - my first use of finishes. I was trying for a semi-metallic look but some of the objects look more plastic than others. I haven't mastered textures yet, but I'm getting the hang of irregular smooth surfaces.

A critique would be appreciated.

nice wok man.. the sholders look too bigh compared
to the whole body though..
and yes the model looks very plastic.. i think it would
be better if you use some metal textures.. you can find
good number at www.3dcafe.com
hmm good over all :D

Nice Mobile Suit

Actually I work on a Cgue (ZGMF-515)

But I have some Problems with the Shield.

Have you any hints for me?

That is a CGUE

I love it,did you do this entirely with AC3D?If so how did you get the plastic effect?

The finish was added using POVRay commands, but the models themselves were entirely done in AC3D.

Amazing! What object did you use for the body?

Mostly extruded polygons. The upper part of the body I designed one complete side of and then replicated. The lower part was a polygon that was mirrored and then extruded downwards.

The most difficult part was the shoulder armour - that was done using a sphere. I deleted some of the surfaces to create a basic shape, deformed it appropriately and then extruded along the edges to create the flaring. I then extruded the whole shape to give it some thickness, and subdivided a couple of times to smooth it out.

I would've never thought to do that, keep in making gundam mobile suit's and thank you for answering my questions.

i tried your polygon idea, but everytime i subdivide the angles are creased and it turns into a strange shape...

I didn't subdivide the body shapes - only those that I wanted to specifically smooth, such as the knee armour. You can also try dividing (not subdividing) the surfaces and then using the "smooth shape" option under the Vertices menu.

Do you have any IM messengers?i rather talk to you instantly than waiting for a reply.

Not at the moment, I'm afraid, it's rather late where I am.

But it was pretty nice!

if you are still watching this topic.... im haveing trouble rounding off the body, and was wondering how did you get it smooth, it allways has creases when i do it. (also, when i use the 'smooth shape' tool it makes all my models smaller and out of prapotion). thanks, and nice work 8)

It depends - which part of the body are you referring to? If you look at my images, the torso part mostly has sharp edges.

When smoothing a shape, first use the divide function. Select the surface(s) that need to be smoothed and divide them about twice. Then apply the smooth shape tool.

You also need to be careful if you are constructing the body using the extrude tool. Always remember to remove any internal surfaces (use the "remove original" option when extruding), otherwise smoothing will "pull" the external vertices in towards the internal surface, resulting in a crease.

well, we'll take the legs for example, how did you get the front (and back i guess) too look rounded off like it was a cylinder? mine is all blocky and flat. but if what you said before fixes my problem, then ill try it again. thanks
