as someone who also makes cars, and planes, I can say that is VERY nice work. And for a moderate polycount too - I use mine in racing sims so have to keep the polys low enough to not choke the graphics engine, high enough to captutre the right look. THAT is the challenge - you can make anything look good if you use 10,000 polys, its doing more with less thats hard. Great work.
Did you use block modelling, or edge extrusion? I was using cross sectional extrusion to give a 3d block model then adjusting the verts, but of late I have started using flat meshes then edge extruding them, sort of "plating" the outer shape of the car.

Looks beautifull.
What is it for? Just the fun or a sim?
A lot of times body sharp lines and ducts benefit from adding a small chamfer.
Look at how Gerard uses the technique around his gun port ducts on this model

Whether the extra polys are worth it depends on where you're useing your model. Some programs wouldnt depict the knife edge along the Lotus' side too well, without a chamfer.

sorry for my late post (one month later :( )
thanks for all your kind words
This car wasn`t easy to create, because there are no blueprints.
So there is still a big difference between my model and the original lotus.
@ BD Ford:
I am using edge extrusion
@ Spinner
It is for a game
I know my mesh is ugly,
I splitted the carbody up in different objects, to get sharp edges
started with the texture:

Looking good.
The wheels look great rotating in game. Guess you'll add inner guards for the front wheel wells but you could just make some of the rear body polys two sided for the rear wells.
Like BD Ford said, nice low poly modelling. I'd be proud if it was mine.
