Please let us know more information about what you did. If you can post the images you were loading, that would help us track down a bug.

Andy,
I was just loading some background images. bmp files I've used previously.
When I loaded the Top window's image I selected a mis-aligned (90 rotation) version of the image. So I clicked clear background followed by set background a few seconds later.
Thats when it popped up the error box.

Aha - I remember a recent bug fix was to fix support greyscale jpegs. Were you using jpegs (.jpg) or .bmp files?
If you were using a greyscale jpeg - that was probably the problem. If you are using a .bmp file then we'll need to investgate more.
