I've been away from AC3D modeling for a bit, but have started a new animation project in which AC3D will be used for most or all of the modeling.

Here's an update to an old cartoon head I was working on a while back that will be used for one of the main characters in the short (I've also submitted a copy to Andy of the old version of this head for the samples in the next release of AC3D).

The bottom of the neck is a bit off at the moment.

Comments and crits welcome.

I remember your old cartoon head, as I was looking for tutos on how to modelize a human head ...

This is a great "strange" human head (is he a human beeing :) ?).
Are you going to modelize his body, or do you only need a head for your project ?

OL.

Thanks much, and, yes, he is human. I'm going for a pseudo-realistically shaded/modeled environment, using "charicatured" actors (we'll see how far I get ;) ).

The body will be modeled as well --- since I have no plans for this character past one project, I'd planned on just modeling him in the suit he'll be wearing for the animation, so the neck will not actually attach to anything underneath.

That is very nice.

How do you get those smooth curved organic shapes? By manipulating one vertex at a time?

This is Subdivision Surfaces in action. Here's the underlying mesh, which is a bit blocky:

This model in the original pic has a subdivision level of 2 set on it, which will divide each surface twice and smooth the vertices without compromising the original mesh.

While I was in a head-making groove, I churned out the head for the second character of the animation:

Both characters will undergo some minor tweaking when all's done, but they should retain these basic forms.

EDIT: This character will be getting some hair eventually, too.
