Here's a small graphic tutorial for using the T.C.E. to texture parts and models !!!
Hope is usefull to someone.
It is a Zip file, so just download and look at it in the windows fax viewer ...

Antonio (or others),
I have a few questions about the texturing part of 3D modeling, and more precisely about the painting process.
What I've done for now, is to prepare a texture with all what I need, and then UV map the model using that texture.
What a lot of people do (and you seem to do that also), is to unwrap the model, save the UV map and then paint on it.
Let's say we have this UV map (not mine and it's a monkey face BTW) :

So I load that UV map into a paint program and then ....
how am I supposed to paint correctly on that ? I mean, how to be sure that if for example I draw a red line on the back neck area, it will be at the right place on the model ... ? Is it a "I guess it's ok" process ? Any way to preview what we are actually doing "live" ? I suppose no ... ? (except maybe using the "tatoo" app ...)
Plus when you have a UV map you want to paint on it, you basically have a wireframe part of the model, so I suppose you paint on the wireframe, even on the outlines of it ? This way the wireframe will not be visible in the final result ?
I hope someone will be able to give me some tips :idea:

O.K., the UV from the TCE is your template for texturing.
1) Once you have that template, you need to use it as a guide for painting.
2) Use a painting program like photoshop and make a new (PSD)doc.
3) Paste your template to a new layer.
4) Make a new layer for painting.
5) Move your template to the top of the layers.
6) Go back to the blank new layer and paint on that one.
7) Just save the PSD doc as a JPG or BMP or TIFF (I use JPG for the smaller size). When saveing hide the layers with the wireframe template. Just save the textured layer.
8) Apply you texture on the OBJ (set surface texture) on the AC3D model.
If you texturing this monky face try to go outside the template just a little. This way the seams won't show !!!

If you what to unwrap the UVs you will new another program for UV mapping.
The UV Mapper by Stephen L Cox, there's a free version .
Get the classic version and you can change the UV mapps for your model to :
plannar or cilindrical or spherical.
Save a new model and import it to AC3D ...
It will have the new UV mapps and you can make some better textures and easier to reach hidden facets.
Just apply those new textures to the new obj and your done !!!

To know where your painting just asigned colors to your mat zones ... In the UV mapper or in AC3D you can do that.
Select the part you what, lets say the eyes, use the rubber band and assigned a new color (mat zone) for the eyes.
When you have the new maps, the colors can guide you to the region you what to paint !!!
Cool, because you'll have more areas to change in the textures of your model.

Thanks a lot Antonio for your help and all these tips.
I've purchased ultimate unwrap 3D a few month ago, and I begin to use it more seriously since a few days, so I will use that app.
Maybe I will try uvmapper anyway, just to see how it works.
I also have paint shop pro, but wasn't really aware of the layers utility until now :)

In addition to Antonio's Paint Shop Pro tips.
If you set the template layer's opacity to something low, like 15%, you can draw your texture on the other layer while still see the lines of the template.
Kind of like paint by numbers - but without the numbers :wink:

The texture coordinate editor is one of my best friends. I always hated when I tried to add a texture and all I would get was a single color. I never realized that all the surfaces were condensed into a single point.
