1) back when i was using ac3d 4 i was able to go to "view" then "background image" and select an image to put in the background... now in ac3d 5 its no longer there, i cannot figure out how to get a background image.... where did it go?
2) is there a way to cut a hole in a shape. for example making windows in the side of an object fuselage.

you might want to look into that for your second question. that tells you how to add circular windows in a rectangular hull or fuselage

Look at the top of each individual window and you have 3 choices: Camera, View and Ortho...It's under Ortho...

First, the background image should be in jpeg format.
Secondly it should be imported at the menue: "Camera" "View" "Orth", clicking "Orth". After that a requester turns up for the backgroundpicture to be desplayed. If nothing apears, the picture is perhaps to small - if you enlarge it in AC3D you get it.
