Hello Everybody,

how do i group objects in AC3D ?
there are several objects in my model so i want to group them to make things easier.
also how can i name a group ?
can a single texture be applied to the whole group by selecting it instead of selecting individual objects.

will be thankful if anyone can help.

thanks.

if you want to group a couple of objects together. I'm assuming you want them to be merged. Then I suggest you click on a 2 objects that you want hit and hold the Ctrl, Shift and M key that will merge the objects you want into one.

and to name an just click on the object you have merged and where you see the color table on the lower left hand screen there will be an input box. just type anything you want in there and that will be the name of an object.

yes it is possible for a single texture to applied to a whole group. in the TCE you have to select the group you want to have the texture. when you do this outlines of your selected group should show up. mess with that a little bit by shrinking the size down to what ever texture you want. HOPE THIS helps you

Hi,
I think he means the group/ungroup buttons in the hierarchy panel. They stay to be grey/inactive...
I'm interested in that too.

In the select mode section, the button to the left of the Object select is the Group select. Select the objects you wish to group, go into group mode, and click group in the bar above the window. I hope I understood the question and helped a little!

Here's an explanation from Dennis in another forum:

"A group is a special object that has no surfaces or vertices but has other objects as children. Groups are created by selecting two or more objects and selecting ‘Group’ from the edit menu, or toolbar. Use the ‘Ungroup’ function to separate the objects."

You can visually see the grouping of a document using Tools -> Hierarchy View.
