Design teams as in...
nightoftheroundtable
26th June 2006, 01:58 PM
you know what I mean for design team. okay then as a design team I am talking about.
1 project manager
2. main project creator. or person who makes the basic design of the model.
3. detail creator. you know we have like someone who does the finishing touches on the model.
4 last but not least we have someone who is good with making textures and adding them to the project.

26th June 2006, 03:35 PM
We seem to be halfway there already.
nightoftheroundtable
26th June 2006, 03:38 PM
lol hmmm yeah true but I dunno if tbd would like to join as for the texture creator. I know who would be a good addition. DRAKELOT or Antonio
captainj2410
26th June 2006, 03:43 PM
My vote is still with tbd for detail work
nightoftheroundtable
26th June 2006, 03:46 PM
okay then. captainj2410 who do you want to be the project manager and project creator. as you stated its one of us. lol
captainj2410
26th June 2006, 03:59 PM
Well, can you draw schematics?
nightoftheroundtable
26th June 2006, 08:04 PM
so I take it I am the project creator. then that would make you the head project manager

sounds good, here's what i've gotten so far on the minishuttle by the way:

note the hull plating on the aft cargo module
nightoftheroundtable
27th June 2006, 12:46 PM
that looks pretty good. okay I have a question. on the hull plating how can I make the lines more visible so that people can see the hull better.
and I will be posting what I have gotton done on my part so far.
captainj2410
27th June 2006, 12:48 PM
Extrude and scale up in the x axis
nightoftheroundtable
27th June 2006, 12:55 PM
ooh okay I will do so
captainj2410
27th June 2006, 01:06 PM
it helps to take surfaces before subdividing and changing their color so you can select them more easily after subdivision
nightoftheroundtable
27th June 2006, 01:19 PM
hmmm alright. I will think about doing that. and I think I found a ways as usale to get the lines to show on the hull plating. couldn't you add lines where each of the other lines on the hull plating that intersect each other and just combin those line and make the color black then all you see is the basic black lines.

well I am finished with the rear hatch. tell me what you think.

Looks like it'll make a fine bulk cargo shuttle!
nightoftheroundtable
28th June 2006, 01:09 PM
thanks for that. as you have already guessed it my skill level it ac3d is increasing. I can now make something thats not symeterical to something that is symeterical. ooh btw I have came up a new little side project of my own. while I am thinking of ways to make the landing gear.
I call my new project.P.A.S.B
captainj2410
28th June 2006, 01:37 PM
I take it it will be up soon?
nightoftheroundtable
28th June 2006, 01:44 PM
hmmm it will be up soon. right now I have the front cockpit design done which is looking awsome.
ooh btw this new ship of mine will be exteremly dangours.
nightoftheroundtable
28th June 2006, 02:21 PM
heres a pic of my latest project the Poly-Assualt-Stealth-Bomber or P.A.S.B

tell me what you think.
captainj2410
28th June 2006, 03:13 PM
Just the cockpit did you say?
nightoftheroundtable
28th June 2006, 03:16 PM
yes that is the cockpit design so far.
captainj2410
28th June 2006, 03:41 PM
Hmm. Pretty anxious to see the rest of it!
nightoftheroundtable
28th June 2006, 08:34 PM
yeah you'll see the rest of it when I can get to it

Another spinoff, I've got a rough interior walkthrough of an Avenger class corridor:
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a153/captainj2410/Interior1.gif
how does it look?
captainj2410
29th June 2006, 01:44 PM
Wow...it shrunk in photobucket...
nightoftheroundtable
29th June 2006, 02:37 PM
lol still that looks pretty good for a spin off.
captainj2410
29th June 2006, 04:37 PM
I was surprised at how easy it was to make. All I did was make an outline of the corridor shape, extrude it, make joints, and manipulate vertices to get the turns.
nightoftheroundtable
30th June 2006, 12:24 AM
yeah that is true. I mean once you get accomodated with ac3d, and know alot of methods usally its those simple methods and processes that can create these complexed projects.
captainj2410
30th June 2006, 01:55 PM
Well, this design team thread is going nowhere fast...
nightoftheroundtable
30th June 2006, 02:18 PM
well then we should probably be recruting some people that we want in this team.
captainj2410
30th June 2006, 02:22 PM
So, try to get tbd for detail work?
nightoftheroundtable
30th June 2006, 02:26 PM
I will do so Captain.
captainj2410
30th June 2006, 02:37 PM
LOL:
Design chief: Captain captainj2410
Chief modeler: Commander nightoftheroundtable
Detail work: Chief Engineer tbd (?)
Texture: Lt. Cmdr. (?)
nightoftheroundtable
30th June 2006, 02:40 PM
ooh I sent tbd a message about our new team I am hoping he will join.

nightoftheroundtable
5th July 2006, 09:34 PM
no thor will not be joining us. but we still can do the work of four.
Titus
6th July 2006, 10:17 AM
What are you guys going to make?
A whole line of Star Trek type ships?
Titus
6th July 2006, 11:00 AM
Have you seen Dennis's well in the showcase?
He is pretty good at texturing.
nightoftheroundtable
6th July 2006, 12:29 PM
yes I have seen but dennis is also busy with his cyborg project. I will ask dennis when he is not busy.
Titus
6th July 2006, 12:35 PM
Sorry, I didnt think about that.
Titus
6th July 2006, 12:46 PM
I just thought of something. Since captianj was saying would should have contests and you guys wanted to have a designing team why not have a team contest?
nightoftheroundtable
6th July 2006, 01:21 PM
hmmm a team contest then people modeling skills would greatly increase
Titus
6th July 2006, 01:37 PM
You are welcome for the idea
nightoftheroundtable
6th July 2006, 01:46 PM
hey Titus you wouldn't happen to have msn messenger would you. we could talk more about this there. if you do have msn send me it through the PM messaging system.
Dennis
6th July 2006, 06:04 PM
yes I have seen but dennis is also busy with his cyborg project. I will ask dennis when he is not busy.
Thanks for considering me, but I'm afraid with the side projects I have, I simply won't be able to put forth the kind of effort that people could depend on me for. The cyborg project is actually a practise project for some "real" work I have coming up soon, and I have a feeling it will be cut short before it gets done as it is.
But thanks again for considering me.
One piece of advice I do have, though, is to perhaps define exactly what it is you're working on --- i.e., are you creating a rendered scene, an animation, and/or a set of models? Some more specifics as to what the final goals are may pique more interest. Just a thought.

your welcome Dennis. basically what me and the captain here was planning on doing. was that I would build the basic model design. captainj2410 will oversee the project development and help if need be. I dont really want to do detail work. but I will if no one else wants to join.

7th July 2006, 01:37 AM
I am way to tired to read, but can I join the team?
captainj2410
7th July 2006, 01:50 AM
Sure! What would you want to work on?
PS, nightoftheroundtable, i think i'm getting somewhat better at detail work, it's mainly just excessive use of the extrude tool!
dylan101
7th July 2006, 02:04 AM
I could be a main project creator, or like a Project Creator-In-Training, because I am new to this. (I need a tutorial to make a tie, to show to my friend, he needs one).
captainj2410
7th July 2006, 02:08 AM
what kind of tie?
dylan101
7th July 2006, 02:10 AM
Tie Fighter :)
captainj2410
7th July 2006, 02:31 AM
can't you just use the sample that came with ac3d?
nightoftheroundtable
7th July 2006, 02:34 AM
hey captainj2410. I see that you have added me to your msn contact can you log on plesse. sorry didn't mean to go off topic.
dylan101
7th July 2006, 02:50 AM
Yea I guess, well then, any star wars ship like an X-Wing
nightoftheroundtable
7th July 2006, 02:54 AM
hmmmm never tried making the X-wing
dylan101
7th July 2006, 03:09 AM
Do you know where I could find a tutorial?
captainj2410
7th July 2006, 01:07 PM
i don't know that anyone has made a tutorial. if you found some schematics online i'm sure it wouldn't be too hard
nightoftheroundtable
7th July 2006, 02:21 PM
you shouldn't worry about locating tutorials for space ships. schematics would help. but all my ships that you have seen I have made on my own with no tutorials.
captainj2410
7th July 2006, 02:27 PM
how would you get schematics for something you made up anyway? lol
nightoftheroundtable
7th July 2006, 02:37 PM
good question. but my question is how do you make the ship schematices anyway?
captainj2410
7th July 2006, 02:41 PM
i draw my own schematics. it usually takes a few months though
nightoftheroundtable
7th July 2006, 02:46 PM
hmmm okay. I was just wondering what programs would you use to make them other than pencil and paper.
captainj2410
7th July 2006, 04:04 PM
some type of autocad maybe. a lot of people use corel draw
dylan101
8th July 2006, 02:47 AM
Wait I got an idea, I will make a star destroyer, they look pretty easy. Does anyone have schematic for it?
captainj2410
8th July 2006, 03:31 AM
http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.obh.snafu.de/~madley/starwars/dataimg/executor.gif&imgrefurl=http://www.obh.snafu.de/~madley/starwars/executor.html&h=426&w=590&sz=83&hl=en&sig2=bocksCvMIXAkHdBKcWJrJA&start=1&tbnid=sjPEeWyjPWYkjM:&tbnh=97&tbnw=135&ei=6VCvRPzYDbCaaPaayZMF&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dstar%2Bdestroyer%2Bschematics%26svnum %3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26safe%3Doff%26sa%3DN
it's not a regular star destroyer though, it's the executor (super star destroyer)
dylan101
8th July 2006, 04:04 AM
Hmm, thats kinda hard to make. Stupid SSD!!! I hate you! :) :) :)
captainj2410
8th July 2006, 04:07 AM
I do have a book with all sorts of schematics and technical data in it, but that doesn't do you any good i guess...
dylan101
8th July 2006, 04:13 AM
Hmm, I guess Ill just make my own type of ship. Any tips for how it should look or how I should make it? (I may even make an inside!)
nightoftheroundtable
8th July 2006, 01:38 PM
I have never delt with the interior specs of the ship. I mostly work on the outside and make that look nice. I guess that lies in with what type of ship are you going to make? are you going to start with the box shape or the sphere.
nightoftheroundtable
8th July 2006, 01:45 PM
hey dylan. if it is schematics you want I found a website of your dreams.^_^
http://users.sisna.com/roguewing1/schematics/trek-klin-rom/startrek2.html
check it out. it might broaden your horizon.
