hey i was just wondering how you would make low polygon tree's or if anyones tried and if they did how did you do it?

Have a look in the samples folder - there's a tree there. (made from two rectangles and textured with a transparent gif)

How were the partially transparent textures made by the way?

Photoshop, paintshop-pro etc. gifs, rgbs and pngs can have transparent parts.

And TGAs also ;).

Does AC3D support them by the way ?

i think they do, somebody sent me a model with tga skins and it worked. do you just have to format the pictures that way, in gifs and all? or do you need to cut the chunks out of the tree's, to make them see through?

To see through the textures you need to assign an alpha channel to the texture. Then the background color of the texture will be transparent.

It takes a little practice, but is pretty easy.

so it's impossible when all you have is ms paint?

If all you have is MS Paint then try downloading Gimp. It is a free program that does close to the same as Photoshop. It will allow for the addition of alpha channels.

I've been doing some work on trees for Targetware and have two diffierent approaches, one is a detailed molel, with 4000 polys, too much for most peoples systems, the other a hybrid flat model with 8-110 polys depending on shape.

Approch One, high poly trees:

Approach Two, max 110 polys. The second way allows some 10,000 trees before fps settings drop to low levels.

I've continued the development to cover a wide range of tree types, and building more to suit specific mod locations.

I can't get the Approach 2 images to load, it says there's a navigation error.
