Could someone tell me how he would make this?

if you think about it, its really not to difficult.
if you want I can make something like that.

Another way to do this:

1. Create your shapes using a rectangle and three ellipses --- create these in the Front (XY) view

2. Select the rectangle and perform a Vertex -> Insert Vertex (to add a vertex to each of the rectangle's edges)

3. Select all and perform a Surface -> Remove Surface Only

4. Select all and perform an Object -> Merge. Select all and perform a Vertex -> Create 2D Mesh -> XY (Front).

5. In Surface mode, select all the surfaces you want to keep (Shift+drag to additive select select). Perform a Surface -> Cut Away Object. (these are easier to select than the disks).

6. In object mode, select the disks and delete them.

Finally, perform an Extrude to add thickness, ensuring you have "Cap end" enabled, "Flip new surfaces" enabled, and "Remove original" disabled.
