Hi all.
I have been outta the PC buying for some time, looking to get something new. A local shop has offered to build this for doing modeling graphics and rendering work.. Maybe some of you can help me see if this is the way or not to go.
I really don't know
Thanks for advice and opinions!
Gemini 650i
ApeviaCruiserCase w/PSU
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.40Ghz
MSI GeForce NX8800CT 512MB PCI-E
Lite-On 20X DVD-RW Lightscribe SATA
Hitachi 500GB SATA 7200RPM HDD
Hi-Speed Internal Card Reader
XP-Home (what i have now i know works with all my apps)Was suggested at @ $1298.40
For another $240.00 i can opt for a Terra Drive....
What would be a dreamy home pc build you would want ?

If money is not an issue, this is what I'd start my system with:
Asus P5E3 -Motherboard 8GB-RAM.
ATI HD 2900 -Video graphics adapter.
And I'd use XP-Pro not XP-Home.
Then again I would like to evetually build my GEM- starts with an VersaLogic Cobra, 2 data gloves and a HMD (2d monoscopic to start with). Mount the mb to your chest via confortable straps, insulate agaist shock and heat, and hope someone can make a battery for it.

The difference in the prices between your configuration and mine is huge. Those parts are the top of the line and the newest technology.
A far as the GEM- it is as you figured a Mobile Full Immersion VR Computer. But it is only a starting point. To get Stereoscopic views on emust have 2 Video Graphics sources, this board has only one. Another problem with it is the VC has not it's own memory and shares the memory with the rest of the devices on the board and the last problem is the long black tether between you and the wall ( the fist time you pull it out, you'll want a battery :-) ). Oh and the cost, I'll sell them for $13,000.

hehehe ya wow hey i looked that Asus P5E3 -Motherboard 8GB-RAM up, holy &*#$ i mean i bet that is nice!!! ok so that would be a very desirable build here if money was more ;) i am thinking smaller for now darnit, around 3-4k.
then there is the monitor ahh every where i go see some nice stuff..
that GEM sounds incredible! ive never heard of such, have you built them by chance? sounds like you can.. can you show me example or site on such?

Not having been in the work force building computers as of late, I lost the drive to keep up with all the choices in motherboards and their costs. My only advice there is to really search the net, I'd start with sites like 'Newegg.com" 'CDW" and then go to the mb manufacturer sites. Look at all the prices and specifications. Then choose one that fits best first your end-use and then affordabitlity ( a balancing act at most).
I have not had the opportunity to build a GEM, funding is the main factor. There is those that feel because the mainboard is an embeded archetecture, ( smaller than a 5x7 photograph) it may not work, but a board is a board is a board (the specs are the same as desktop board; go figure). http://www.versalogic.com/Products/DS.asp?ProductID=164
Here is a picture of the initial look (not to scale).
