OK! Your instructions were close enough to fix the problem. windows 11 search found the "nVidia control panel" and while switching all the anti-aliasing flags did nothing, I did switch the Preferred graphics processor from "auto select" to "high-performance Nvidia processor" and now it works like it should. I'm guessing our beloved AC3D doesn't wake up the nvidia processor.
