Great stuff!
For missing surfaces - make sure the normals all face the same way. Select all the surfaces ad set to single sided ('1S' on control panel). Any surfaces that are the wrong way around will show up from the opposite side only. Use Surface->flip-normal to flip it.
When making poly objects by clicking, click in an anti-clockwise direction, then the surface will face you in the view.
