Default Quasi-Random Bumpy Texture?

Hello all,

I'm going to be redoing a mesh soon that I would like to give baked in texture to some surfaces. I'd like to make it look like rough hammered metal, or a gravely kind of surface that is slightly melted (so that you've got random but more or less uniform small dimples and rounded peaks).

Does anyone know if there's an easy way of doing that over large areas in AC3D? I know I could model it all vertex by vertex, but I'd like to avoid that kind of tedium if someone knows say "Just set the Greeble tool to X and Y and then subdivide it!" (I tried that, didn't find any settings that gave good results for me though)
