All that is very well explained in the help file.
Did you read it ?

There's a section in the help file called "Model manipulation / Operations on objects / Texture" ... then another one called "Texturing" ... and another one called "Tools / Texture coordinate editor".

If you already did read these sections and still are not able to map your texture on your polygon then ... what kind of polygon is it ? What kind of texture are you using ? ...
What are you expecting as a result ? Can you post a screenshot ? ...
