Default AC3D newbie

Up to now I've been making sculpties using Rokuro, simple program to use gets pretty good results, but more importantly makes your uv maps for you.

I tried making a flowerhead in AC3D, it's a bit like a spikey ball. I created the model, saved it etc and uploaded to SL, but all I got was a deformed ball with two spikes on it. I know spikey models aren't supposed to be a good idea, but Rokuro did a good job of them, although you couldn't get as many spikes as with AC3D.

So I tried downloading the wineglass model, found in the tutorials. I opened it in AC3D, saved etc. When i uploaded it to SL I got the stem and half the glass 'bowl', no foot for it.

I just bought AC3D today, looked through the manual and must be missing something.
Are there any good video tutorials out there, as well as those on YouTube? I'm looking for those that start with the very basics.

Is there any chance of getting a plug in that creates the model and the uv map just for SL?
