I'd probably shoot for a modeled hole rather than a textured one, but it all depends on what you're planning to do with it. Nice base model so far.
AA is Anti-aliasing - it will make the edges of your 3D shapes look much better for screen grabs like this one. You can enable/disable it in the 3D menu of the 3D view (not the main menu 3D). I attached a screenshot.
You probably only want to enable it while making screen shots though, as it can slow down performance in the 3D view noticeably, depending on your hardware and the model you're working on.
