Short learning curve, sophisticated enough to produce complicated shapes, texturing, the ability to use and/or write your own plugins and the capability to export to various formats makes it a gem, IMHO.

Sure there are a bunch of programs that can do each of the above better and offer more features but this program packages features that are very useful and convenient for certain applications.

So, it depends to some extent on your application. At the same time, I have used the program for about a couple of weeks now and I wont be exagerating when I say AC3D is extremely useful for my purposes.
