Just sharing a bit what I'm doing in Paint Shop Pro with the texture :
I do save each important part of the texture map as a separate layer.
This way, I can quick select the exact same part again and, for example, fill that selection with a brand new texture ...
And of course I do save the psp file somewhere in the model folder for futur changes.
