You can set the grid size under the "File -> Settings..." menu item.

For feet and inches, "Draw grid major" can be set to 1.0 and "Draw grid minor" can be set to 0.083333 (1 divided by 12) to give you 12 squares per grid.

For feet and 1/10 foot, "Draw grid major" can be set to 1.0 and "Draw grid minor" can be set to 0.1.

1.0 is, of course, arbitrary --- you can use any scale you'd like here, as there is no universally accepted conversion from 1.0 to "real-world measurements" in 3D.
