To make an object translucent, first apply a material from the palette by selecting the object, then left clicking on the material color in the lower left area of the screen.
After you've applied a material, you can make it translucent by right-clicking on the material and selecting Edit Material. Slide the Transparency slider to make the material more or less opaque.
