I think what you want to do is possible but you will have to divide up the single polygon into at least four sections (Surface->divide).
Remember that texture coordinates can overlap and be the same.
For each quarter of your object, you need to select the surfaces and map those to your quarter texture. Once you've done one set, selct the next in AC3D and map those to the same position. Use the flip buttons on the TCE to reverse the direction of mapping.
