Default Whats the easiest way to make a horn?

I'm trying to make a cow horn shape black powder container (for a game that has 18th century firearms in it) and I'm having a little bit of trouble. Doing it by hand is messy and after using a circle shape and a rough curve I end up with a curved pipe which I can resize manually. I'm guessing with AC3D there is an easier way but I don't see it yet. It's probably something very obvious, go easy on the newbie. So far I've made two simple objects and textured them, so I'm gradually getting the hang of this new fangled technology.

PS How do you close off the end of an object eg. a cylinder with two open ends? Thus far my attempts at that sort of thing haven't worked well either.

Things like texturing are pretty simple in comparison for me. It's the actual sculpturing that I'm still learning beyond anything that you can make with simple application of the box modeling technique.

Edit: Well I can make a cone easy enough. Now need to work out how to bend it.

Edit again: Ok got it. Nice command that, will be very useful in the future ie. vertex->Create convex surface/object. Just made a series of rings, moved them to approximate a horn and used that command with two of those rings and repeated the process with each ring. It's pretty rough, but much closer than I was a couple of hours ago.
