Default Re: 'Tharsis Orbiter'

Hi nightoftheroundtable,

first of all apologies, I think I posted my reply to the request for 'show off your images' in the wrong area, I'll know next time.

Thanks for the feedback, in answer to your question it took about 5 to 6 hours to build the model in AC3D, probably longer than what I would expect normally as it's only the second model I've completed in AC3D, there was about 15 revisions in total.

All in all, it took about two weeks to complete the image, working during dinner breaks at work (!) and the occasional evening. The textures were from a previous model I'd completed, they just seemed to fit the 'Orbiter' nicely. The background is a mix of a POVRay galaxy image, imported to Bryce 4.1, a Mars planet map applied to a sphere placed in front of the background. The resultant image was then applied to a box in POVRay with the ship in front and a POVRay lens flare added to finish the scene.

I tend to lean away from creating a wholy accurate image with a modeller (ie. all elements in a scene in one file), but use different programs such as POVRay and Bryce to 'layer' different parts together to produce a final image.

Most of the techniques and resources I've built up over nearly 14 years of raytracing (and still learning I should add!), only the AC3D model is different.

I've got another image under development at the moment, plus quite a few more planned, I'll post to the forum as they are completed!

Cheers
