Here's a rectangle created on the front view then rotated by -45 on the Y axis.
The llittle pink line indicates the surface's normal vector (basically the direction the surface faces) :



Selecting that surface ...


... then pressing a couple of time the "+" key from the keyboard

has moved that surface away in the direction it is facing.

No more, no less
