Default Re: Comparable programs for learning

Hmm, guess I need to elaborate. I'm looking for books to study as I have considerable time for that when I am away from my computer. Most books are program specific, although they may contain general 3d modeling info as well, which is what I am looking for.

Does any one of the popular programs translate better to AC3D than the others?

I've searched high and low for platform independent modeling books and there isn't a lot out there.

Since there is no "AC3D for beginners" book available, which book would be more valuable if you were planning on using AC3D in the end? ie: "3DS for beginners" or "Maya for beginners" or "Blender for beginners" etc?

Anyone have an opinion on this?
