Yeah, it's pretty easy.
1. Make sure you've enabled Vertice selection. Select the 2 vertices(one from each rectangle) you want to be in the same place
2. Resize the selection so that are on the same spot
3. Menu->Object->Optimize vertices (1 should be removed)
4. Repeat from step 1 for the other 2 vertices
Depending on layout of your rectangles you could do step 1 with 4 vertices (2 pairs) in one go.
