What kind of 3D person are you looking to make? Cartoonish, realistic, etc.? The approach to creating people in 3D will greatly depend on what kind of results you are aiming for. Even better, if you could provide examples/links of the kind of people you are trying to create, that will be helpful.
Also, what kind of modeling experience do you have, if any?
