Hmmm,
I have 3d software that will combine those tri's into quad's.
Then you could use AC3D's fragment command to make sep. objects.
If you want send me the layer with those 1000 trees and I'll make them quad's.
Or you can try yourself with Blender 3D.
You can use DAE format to move the file between the two apps (or look for the .ac plugin for blender which may help)
