Default Re: Federation F-1 Fighter

Heh, it's funny that you should say that, because Jack Northrop derived his inspiration from the German flying wing aircraft captured by American forces during the Nazi withdrawal at the close of World War II. His first flying wing concept was the N-1M Jeep, which was succeeded by a number of experimental planes. Eventually, this all culminated in the design of the YB-49, a prototype flying wing bomber that competed with the YB-52 for a military contract. Unfortunately, this design was unsuccessful, despite its obvious innovation, because the technology of the era was not advanced enough to cope with the inherent instability of the tail-less design. The concept was placed on the back burner until the 80's when Northrop (now Northrop Grumman) produced the B-2 Second Generation Stealth Bomber.

Thus concludes our history lesson for today! Haha!

Despite its obvious parallels to the American designs, this is more in line with the Ho 229, due mainly to its engine placement (being that they are so close to center) and the tail boom.
