I agree, POVRay is complicated. That's why I use PoseRay.
With PoseRay, you can manipulate scenes interactively, toy around with the cameras, lighting, and sky easily, and get a better idea of what you'll end up seeing in the render window before you render it. Then you can use it to render the image through POVRay.
Note: PoseRay doesn't understand .ac files. I recommend exporting anything as a .obj, since that seems to be highly compatable across the board.
