Union combines the 2 objects to make one object

Intersect- Is to take to shapes and combine them where they touch to make a brand new object. Shows you how it works best when you click delete originals by checking the delete boxes. If you don't desire to delete the new object is highlighted just drag it away to check it out.

Then you have subtraction, example take a star(object A) and delete from object B (a square) the shape of the star were they intersect. So if you make sure that the star is breaking the plane of the box your box gets a imprint of a star on it. And vice versa(A-B/B-A subtraction)

Try experimenting with acouple of spheres or boxes, let me know how it goes for you.
