VRay is pretty popular, but I don't use it very much myself so I'm probably not the best person to give an opinion on it.

About 90% of what I do is "real-time" work (games) so I'm nearly always using my own renderer, even for stills. Other than that, I most often use POVRay, Firefly or Terragen/T2.
