Thanks for taking the time to look at this problem. After getting your responce, I started checking out my pc for problems because I have 4 gigabytes of ram installed in it. I think that my problem is now a memory problem. Windows is telling me that I only have 3 gigabytes of ram in the system instead of 4. I guess I will need to test the memory and replace the bad one. Splitting up the files is probably the best way to go. That will keep me busy for a while. There are 1089 srtm files to cut up and turn into models. These files cover the entire united states.
