This site is the hands-down best 3D reference site for character artists I've ever run across:

The guy literally takes hundreds of high-resolution photographs from every conceivable angle of a single subject... including reference images for each phoneme and other important animation poses, all labelled. All of the models are standing in a T-pose or other standard reference pose. On a few of the models, he even drew the edge loops on the subject before photographing them. The photos are so high-resolution, you can make out the reflection of the studio in the subject's eyes in many of the shots.

The subscription is a bit pricey for causal artists, but well worth it if you make a lot of models or skins. Some high-res sample images and the most of the low-resolution thumbnails are freely available.
