Yes, that is the intended behavior. there's no slice/boolean that unions the greebles on a surface (I actually hadn't thought of subdividing the greebles until Andy'd mentioned it). They're just stuck there on top of one another...

On a side note, I am seeing that some of the settings may need to be tweaked a bit. Looks like my min/max bevel height isn't working past a relatively low threshold, and I need to raise the limits of the greeble heights as well so you can get more dramatic effects without manually keying in the numbers.
