if you want to group a couple of objects together. I'm assuming you want them to be merged. Then I suggest you click on a 2 objects that you want hit and hold the Ctrl, Shift and M key that will merge the objects you want into one.
and to name an just click on the object you have merged and where you see the color table on the lower left hand screen there will be an input box. just type anything you want in there and that will be the name of an object.
yes it is possible for a single texture to applied to a whole group. in the TCE you have to select the group you want to have the texture. when you do this outlines of your selected group should show up. mess with that a little bit by shrinking the size down to what ever texture you want.
