I've asked this question before, and been told that to integrate animation would require a HUGE,all-encompassing change in how the code is written. It's not a "drop-in" type of feature or something that can be handled in a plug-in. Thus, this certainly wouldn't be something to expect in "the next version", if at all.
I'm hoping someone might correct me and tell me that it's coming soon
but, that's the impression I have gotten.
