That's the box I mean
. See if you can resize that box by dragging out the edges. The "Editing object properties" is actually the title in the properties editor - there are a editing controls between that and the Close button, it just sounds like they're hidden because the window is too small, for whatever reason.
For rounded edges on a box, it sounds like you might be looking for subdivisions (which can be found both on the Object property Editor and under the Object menu). You'll get best results from subdiving a cube if you start with a "Block" object rather than a "Box" - experiment with it a bit and you'll see what I mean.
