Does anyone know why "subtract" creates so many extra vertices and polygons?
I have to clean them all up, which is very tedious.
Is there a setting/preference or something else that I'm missing?

not easy to do,
seems to be all about the right order placement of 2 objects (lower in hirarchy is target object in which the hole must go),
then find the right drop down command.
give it some attempts, once you find the trick, it becomes easy.
thinking of making a video tutorial.
