Cambria Class Starship
As you might have noticed, I have a habit of starting a bunch of different projects at once, usually to each project's detriment. Oh well, here's a new concept ship I'm working on, the Cambria Class. First one is the USS Cambria NX-102117.
Comments, concerns, criticisms, please feel free!

Re: Cambria Class Starship
Here's another option I'm considering:
Let me know which nacelle configuration you all prefer. I'm also experimenting with a forward swept configuration.

Sorry for this plethora of posts in my own topic, but here's some more options.

Re: Cambria Class Starship
Hmmm. Tough call!
From the top view, the "smoothed delta, nacelles back" has a nice look to it. I also like the similar underside view. It gives the ship a very sleek, sweeping look to it. But from the profile, nacelle's swept down seem like they are below the ship's center of gravity, which makes me inclined to vote nacelles up. I don't know if\how this applies to ST engine design--warbirds and bird-of-prey are built that way, aren't they?--but I'd think the lower Nacelles would make the ship nose-heavy. Of course, that could be a good plot point if you were using it in a story! |

Re: Cambria Class Starship
Great, at the rate things are going, I'll have to make a bunch of different designs and have them all as variants! Oh well, that is a good point, though. I think I'll make some sort of storyline where a Cambria Class starship is chasing another class and winds up going through a planet's atmosphere. Since the other ship is balanced, it has equal power routed to all its antigrav generators. The Cambria, on the other hand, is unbalanced, and due to some circumstances that prevent the crew from rerouting power, it loses control and crashes. Thanks for the inspiration!
Votes as of now: Back Almond: 1.5 Back Smooth: 2 Back Basic: 0 Back Up: 1.5 No votes for Forward.

Re: Cambria Class Starship
I finally decided on what variations I'm going to use. Nacelles back, smoothed transition delta, and the up and middle versions of nacelles. I've actually started putting details on now. It's a science vessel, that's why it has that sensor laden fin and underside.

I looked at it and saw it was the USS Cambria. A famous World War II attack transport was named after my county, and I didn't even know it! I'm actually taking a bit of pride in that fact. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Cambria_(APA-36)
