Can you provide more info as to what you're trying to do? Depending on your needs, you may be looking for a texturing solution, a modeling solution, or something else...

I am trying to take a model of the earth that i can select certain areas such as continents and move them and I also want the ability to change elevation like mountains

Click on the 'sphere' button on the control panel.
Click in the middle of a view window (front?) Go to Menu Object->texture->load-texture and select your image file. |
