I am making a model of say a motorcycle gas tank. I do not understand how to map the entire model? If I select map top, left, front, etc., that is all that will be visible. This tool does not make a lot of sense. Anyone have a video (slow) that explains step by step how to create the UV map so I can create my textures?

I have seen these type of textures, they are used with the avatars for 3d chat sites. Myself haven't found the need to use them yet, but I am sure I will.

I am looking for a step by step example of how to unwrap an object (all surfaces), copy that image to the clipboard, so I can then create my own texture map to load into AC3D and apply it to the model. I'm not trying to take an existing texture map and wrap it to an object. I know how to do that.
When using the texture editor, I don't understand how to isolate the top, left, front, back, etc. and place the outlines of each piece onto the texture map surface. The manual is extremely vague about using the editor. It's like a single paragraph. |

How would you wrap the texture around an object?

just apply it as a whole object and use the TCE texture coordinate editor and just adjuest point to fit each part of the object
